The semester begins.

The semester begins. As always, I seem to have forgotten something. I am always forgetting some supply or a textbook. Of course I really hate it when techers just drop a textbook on you on the first day of class. I looked up to see if my class will have a textbook and I did not see one and sure enough the first day of class, I have to buy a textbook… not just any textbook an expensive one. (Note: An expensive book is over 7 dollars, yes I use the same standard for textbooks.) It just gets on my nerves and hurts my wallet.

I seem to have more problems with the first week because of sleep schedules. Yes I like to get sleep. I have to get use to the class schedule.. at least this semester because 3 days a week I have to get up at 8 in the morning which I really do not like. I am a person who likes to sleep until at least 10… of course that rarely works except during school.

Did anyone ask you for directions this past week? I had at least 2 people ask me directions and the irony of that is the fact that they are asking directions with about 2 minutes until the hour… Do people wait until 5 minutes before a class to go find a classroom? I hope not. That just does not make any sense to me. Of course if you just read the signs in the buildings you can normally find your way. I am not saying that asking for directions is wrong but maybe people should use a little more time management.

Class, work = abuse…. and one tired person.

It seems that I have not had time to update this… Well that is extremely true.

Classes have taken my life and crushed it and abused it. I feel sorry for my life it is tired, sore, and worn out.

Luckily, I guess it is luck… I have finished two of the three big presentations/ assignments that I have to do before the semester is over. Of course, most likely like all the other students on the campus, I am ready for Thanksgiving break.. sadly I will have to work on class work over the break.. but I am ready to not have to go to class.

Of course right now it is 2 am.. I have finished by long.. long.. list of things to do for my web editor’s position.. it seems longer every Wednesday night/ Thursday morning….

The website, vsuspectator.com, is tiring to upkeep.. but then an website would be… I honestly can say this website is the first one that I have ever had to completely upkeep… of course I have to be thankful.. Karah-Leigh is awesome she does help me with anything. She is amazing because she has to listen to my silly questions and has to answer or at least attempt to answer them.

Of course I get to seat next to her at work and hear her go on about Miley Cyrus, The “Jonai”, 90210 and other useless things… so I am not sure sometimes who has the better end of this deal. Sorry Karah-Leigh, I could not resist…

I guess life is sometimes a pain.. but if my only pain right now is the fact that class and work have worn me out and completely drained me… I guess I could be doing pretty good.. because I get up in the morning to the sun.. well I say morning but hopefully tomorrow it is closer to afternoon and not morning.. and start my day pretty well.

Ocean Street and Sister Hazel

Right now, I sitting at a computer with my feet screaming and partial deaf.

You can probably figure out why. I went to the “Sister Hazel” concert on the front lawn. It was great. It was great music and entertainment. “Sister Hazel” put on a great show, so did their opening act, “Ocean Street.”

Let me talk a little about “Ocean Street.” Going to this concert I knew just about nothing about them. I learned that they were here last year for the Corey Smith concert…. which I did not go to.

I just have to say that I enjoyed their concert. They were fun and energizing. They seemed very charismatic on stage. I may have to look for more of their music.. but on my budget it may be a long time before I get one of their cds… well beside the sampler they were giving out… which I got.

Sister Hazel… before tonight I knew only about one of their songs.. “All for you.”
Sister Hazel just rocked out on stage. I was drawn into the concert and was glad to be there. I would probably go to another Sister Hazel concert. I also found out about the song they sang for the movie 10 things I hate ab

out you, which is a movie I love.

I guess I just became the fan of two music groups, “Sister Hazel” and “Ocean Street.” That is just great for my wallet… more money I want to spend.. but if I buy either one of their cds.. I have to say I probably would not regret it at all.

I only had one problem with the concert.. and it had nothing to with either of the band…. wait it kind of does… The people in the crowd, who smoked, were smoking and that made me made. I don’t smoke; I don’t want to be around smoking; I personally don’t care if you or anyone else smokes but a smoker should be consideration of the others who don’t and who don’t want to breathe in second hand smoke. I have to be consideration of the others at the concert by not standing directly in their eye-line which can’t always be helped.. but at least what I do does not have the potential to kill anyone. The worst time the intermission.. which was almost an hour long… which probably why people started to smoke they got bored. I do have to say I personally think it was too long.. but I really don’t know much about setting up a concert so I can’t really know.

CAB Strikes again

I went to another CAB event.

Guess what it could have been better…. Well that is normally true when we go to events, we, or at least I do, think about ways of improving the event but the problem with this one is that I got frustrated during this event.

Well, I think you might want to know what the event was. Tonight in the UC, CAB held a Pop Culture Trivia event. I was a little excited. Call me weird but I am one of the people who actually watches the “World Series of Pop Culture,” and the worst part is I try to answer the questions.. I normally get them wrong, expect for the random ones… Anyway at the CAB event, honestly I did not know that many of them, especially the last round, which was all about Brittney Spears.

But the CAB event was poorly organized. It never fails when I go to an event that the CAB representatives host themselves it is always unorganized. The big one that I remember from last semester the “Build-a-Bear” thing that CAB did. Guess what? They did not have enough, a fight tried to break out, and I have never seen so many miserable people. Even the “Build-a-Bear” workers, the guys who were stuffing the bears and using the machines, looked like they could not wait to leave.

Back to the Trivia Night, the event had to restart because of organization issues. It seemed like CAB did not realize that their event was a good idea. They did not have the Trivia set up for the number of teams that participated in the event, even though they had enough pizza.

CAB, I think needs to learn how to organize an event for a large group of people.

Wednesday Night Ramble

I am, as always it seems, sitting in front of a computer. Here I am sitting on a Wednesday evening working on The Spectator website, which in turns means I am still staring a computer. I seem to have to stare a computer screen, but I guess that comes with the job description

At this time I waiting for information to post, and going over codes to make sure everything works correctly, and as always listening to weird commentary that comes from our editors. Wednesday nights are always full of interesting commentary.

Something that always seems to enter the conversation is Karah-Leigh’s music tastes. Of course the main reason for it entering is the fact that Karah-Leigh has put up a pretty big poster of the Jonas Brothers up on the wall… of course this is need my computer because my desk is right next to the Editor-in-Chief.

It’s not that I don’t like the Jonas Brothers; it’s just that Karah-Leigh is as it always seems is going overboard but honestly it makes life very entertaining.

Another weird thing that has entered the conversation is ramen, Doritos, and tuna; all in the same conversation. It seems that the sad reality of the College student’s diet was being discussed, which normally seems to consists of fast food, ramen, and snacks. We were discussing interesting alternatives to fast food and boring ramen.

That seems to be just a normal night up here at the Spectator.

Margaritaville or Glory Days?

I wonder if anyone knew about the Jimmy Buffet cover band that played on the Quad Friday. Well… I don’t think that anyone did because there was only about 25 people there… and if you take me out and the CAB representatives out than about 20 people showed up just to listen to this band. That is a little sad.

But why did no one show up? Was it not advertised right? ….. Well I don’t think that is the real problem. I mean I just don’t think that the students were into this concert…. and well, I can’t say I blame them.

It was four old guys standing on a stage singing songs from their glory days.

They were singing songs about drinking and alcohol on a dry campus, and better yet most of the students there were probably freshmen, so they were underage. That makes so much sense.

So these four guys were singing and all of them seemed as old if not older than my parents. What college student would be interested?

I can’t be too mean because the band was really good. They had talent but that is not the problem I have with it. It made little sense as to why they were there.

I mean I can understand that it is parent’s weekend and the concert had to be appropriate for the parents, but not every student’s parent came to VSU this weekend, and not many of the parents were there.

The few students I saw there were only there to be with their parents and they looked a little bored. I did not really see any students there, just to be there. So the question is.. was that the greatest choice for a concert?

Personally, I don’t think so.
